Matterhorn Group, Inc. (MGI) was formed in February of 2005 by merging the business and operations of ice cream novelty producers in Idaho, California and Oregon to become the largest producer of ice cream novelties in the western United States. The head office is situated in Boise, Idaho and MGI employs over 300 people during the peak of the ice cream production season.

Founded in 1913 as a dairy operation, with the highly practical name “Salem Sanitary Milk.” In 1930, the company began making ice cream and changed its name to “Salem Made Ice Cream and Sanitary Milk.” Eventually the company shifted completely to ice cream and changed its name to DeLuxe Ice Cream Company.
Vitafreze Frozen Confections, Inc.
Sacramento, California
Founded in 1933, Vitafreze has been one of the pioneers in ice cream novelty manufacturing. The founder of the company invented the Vitaline, a machine largely credited with creating the ice cream novelty market in the United States. The machine and technology is still widely used today.
Today the company’s focus is private label ice cream novelties, frozen ice products and packaged ice cream. Private Label partnerships represent a “who’s who” of the food industry and include leading companies such as: Albertsons, Kroger, Stater Brothers, Safeway, SSI, Bashas’, Target and Ahold. Additionally MGI’s contract packaging collaborations include or have included: Costco, Schwan’s, Western Family, Kemps, Meadow Gold, Anaheim Angels, San Diego Padres, Dean Foods, ConAgra and Weight Watchers.
Additionally, a percentage of the business is focused on promoting MGI’s brands including: Mike and Ike®, Hot Tamales®, Yoo-hoo®, Bazooka Joe®, DeLuxe™, BIG ED’s®, Dad®’s Root Beer, Eddy the Yeti and Betty the Yeti, DeLuxe™ Slim n’ Trim®, DeLuxe™ Festival, Country Classic and Vitafreze.
